Wind turbineThe Landmark Practice is pleased to announce that Bernice Roberts (Principal Environmental Planner) and Lyndon Roberts (Senior Ecologist) have both been appointed by the Centre for Sustainable Energy to the new national Renewable Energy and Planning Expert Support Network. Emergency mitigation works in Wellington’s High Street, Somerset

DemolitionThe Landmark Practice has recently worked with Hawkes Meadow Properties to enable emergency demolition of two derelict cottages which were structurally unsound and in imminent danger of collapse into the High Street in Wellington. The site had been granted full planning permission for the building demolition and construction of new retail and residential properties and a new supermarket with car parking. Bat surveys of the properties had not been requested as part of the planning application. (more…)

BREEAM / Code for Sustainable Homes Assessments

Since 1 May 2008, it has been mandatory for all new homes to have a Code for Sustainable Homes (CSH) rating. BREEAM building assessments are required by various regulatory and government organisations such as English Partnerships, The Office of Government Commerce (OGC), The Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF), Housing Corporation, The Welsh Assembly, Government Regional Development Agencies and Local Authorities.The Landmark Practice is working with a number of clients to achieve required ecology and landscape credits under various BREEAM (The Building Research Establishment’s Environmental Assessment Method) and CSH (formerly EcoHomes) assessments. These have included a Persimmon housing development at Portishead (EcoHomes), an office development for Shepherd Developments at Emersons Green, Bristol (BREEAM offices), Filton High School, Bristol (BREEAM schools), a Bloor Homes residential development at St. Peter’s Park, Radstock (CSH assessment) and South Devon College, Paignton (BREEAM Bespoke).

Unveiling of newt mosaic, Marnel Park, Basingstoke

Newt mosaicSeptember 2008 saw the unveiling ceremony of a great crested newt mosaic at Marnel Park, Basingstoke. The unveiling ceremony was the culmination of a project involving the internationally-acclaimed artist Julieann Worrall Hood and year seven children at Everest Community College, Basingstoke funded by David Wilson Homes. The forms a focal point at the heart of the development.The Landmark Practice has been closely involved with the development at Marnel Park for eight years.
